Church services cancelled for March 15th and 22nd.

March 13, 2020 //  by Joanne Hanson

Dear members and friends of First Presbyterian Church, Woodburn,
Following the recommendation of the Presbytery (see the letter below my signature) and the practice of many churches in our area, the Session will be suspending public worship, out of loving concern for the health of our members and our neighbors. There will be no services at the church the next two Sundays, March 15 and 22. We will re-evaluate after that. Other churches are suspending “indefinitely” or “until Easter.”

The Presbytery Leadership Commission of Cascades Presbytery urges all sessions to suspend public gatherings for their congregations, including worship, to support public health and the wellbeing of participants and our larger communities. We encourage you to closely follow guidance from public health authorities, and maintain these practices until the time when such restrictions are lifted.

Simultaneously, we trust that you will find creative ways to remain in fellowship and community, supporting one another and living out your Christian vocations.  We hope too that despite our current need for “Social Distancing,” we will also be able to lean into our connectional nature to nurture the health and vitality of all our members.

JUNE 2019 COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATE

July 17, 2019 //  by Joanne Hanson

We are on our way for this season. We have provided a total of 16 pounds of produce with much more to come. Thanks for help harvesting ladies!
Thanks to the volunteers who help plant, water, weed and make pathways.
You are all great!
Tuesday afternoon several of us raided the garden for salad fixings. Juan’s amazing radish!

We took over the church kitchen to wash our produce.

Next up was salad dressing preparation. Some of us discovered we like one and disliked another.

A great opportunity to do some sampling.

Next up will be recipes using zucchini. We will meet on July 10 at 4:30 in the church kitchen. One kid friendly choice is a chocolate zucchini cake. Since the garden has blueberries we found a recipe that use both!
See you in the garden.

April 2019 Garden Update

April 17, 2019 //  by Joanne Hanson

The weather was perfect for our tasks in the garden! We weeded and marked the strawberries first.

Next we moved compost to all 9 small raised beds.

We worked on the pathway around the garden to redefine it for ease of travel.

While those tasks were completed Mike and Jose shredded leaves into the new compost bins!

Next up is tilling in preparation for planting. We are thinking dry weather so that can happen sooner rather than later.
That will open the whole garden for planting and setting up the drip system for watering the food bank portion of the garden. Those who rented spaces will have access to their plots.
See you in the garden!
